Best Radio Ever!
The Current is the best radio station that exists. With a AAA format they play music that is not played on many other radio stations. Yet, it is not the garage band quality music that you might expect. The selection of the host is amazing and they are always playing new songs (thus the name the current). They have a lot of great shows that explore many different varieties of music including the shows: Teenaged Kicks (80's music), United States of Americana (the rooty side of the current), Redefinition Radio (rap), and Local Current (Local stuff).
Local MN
This station is dedicated to giving local musicians a chance for air time. I have actually found that I enjoy the local music the best and it is really great. It reminds me of how many talented musicians are out there and how local music is so vital to communities. If you are not from MN you will still enjoy this station and you can stream it online. It is better that just using Pandora or some other sites because they have actual human beings choosing the music. They also play music that has not made it to the internet distributers yet. Nationally they are great, Locally they are amazing! Also, they host many different in-studio performances that are free to listen to on their web site. They also put on shows in the Twin Cities that are always fun to go to.
Member Supported
They are a part of Minnesota Public Radio but most of their money comes from member supporters. This means that there are no commercials! The draw back is that every few months they have a member drive. But I mean come on, giving a few dollars a month for such a service is worth it, supporting music, artists, and radio is worth not having business men control what gets played and heard.
